In Loving Memory
Martha Lou Pierce
1/1/1938 - 1/27/2011

Martha Lou Pierce passed away Thursday, January 27, 2011 after an extended battle with diabetes and congestive heart failure. Martha Lou was born January 1, 1938 to John and Agnes Hedges in rural Henry County. To her family and friends she was known as Marcie. She worked for Citizens State Bank for 22 years, and retired in 1993 due to failing eyesight as a result of her diabetes. Her colleagues at the bank knew her as Marty.

Martha Lou was a 1955 graduate of Mt. Summit High School and was a proud Eagle and then a supportive Viking her entire life. She also became a Raider backer when some of her grandchildren became active Shenandoah students. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy and she would tell that to anyone who would listen. She always had a soft spot in her heart for cats and often fed those that wandered to her home. She was a lifelong member of Mt. Summit Christian Church.

Those she left to carry her memory in their hearts are: her daughter, Shari (husband Randal) Ray and her son, Mark (wife Mary) Pierce; grandchildren, Annalise (husband Bryce) Welsh of Noblesville, Indiana, Connor and Kendall Ray, Kindsey, Karlee, Kirstyn, Kathryn, and Bobby Pierce; 2 sisters, Ginny (husband Tony) Riggs of rural Henry County and Sandy (husband Tim) Hird of Anderson, Indiana; 1 brother, John (wife Lorraine) Hedges of Texas; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by: her husband, Ralph A. Pierce and her father, John A. Hedges.

Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 5, 2011 at Macer-Hall Funeral Home & Cremation Services in New Castle with Rev. Mark O’Brien officiating. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery. Friends may call 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. on Friday, February 4, 2011 at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to the Henry County Animal Shelter.

Marcie was a doting aunt & grandma. She loved her family, and would share countless stories about each to anyone who would listen. I will miss her humor, and her love of Elvis. Say "hi" to Grand-dad for me.
